The Management Information Systems (MIS) plays an essential role within the Department of Communication and Digital Transformation (DCDT) and the Vanuatu Government's IT infrastructure. It is responsible for the administration of both physical and virtual systems resources housed within the Government Data Centres. This management is essential for the department to deliver reliable and efficient IT services while maintaining security and compliance standards.
The Key responsibilities of MIS:
Data Centres Operational Oversight: MIS oversee the daily functions of the datacentre facilities, which encompass the maintenance of systems hardware and software, performance monitoring, and the assurance of efficient resource utilization.
Capacity Planning: MIS assess the present use of systems resources and forecast future needs to ensure the efficient scalability of the data centres. This procedure requires an in-depth comprehension of the existing computing, storage, and networking capabilities, along with strategic planning for possible expansions or enhancements as necessary.
Security and Compliance: Ensuring adherence to security protocols and compliance regulations within data centres is of utmost importance. This encompasses both physical security measures and cybersecurity practices designed to safeguard sensitive information.
Disaster Recovery Planning: MIS oversees the development of comprehensive systems backup and disaster recovery plans aimed at reducing downtime during failures or catastrophic events. This process involves the identification of essential systems and the establishment of failover procedures to ensure continuity.
Vendor Management: Overseeing relationships with various vendors for hardware, software, and services can be intricate; however, it is crucial for ensuring consistent service levels across a range of systems.
